Mattress care and rotation
Updated 10 January 2026 · 3 min read
A mattress that is looked after keeps its shape longer, and care requirements are often written into the warranty.
Rotating and turning
Most modern mattresses are single-sided and should be rotated head to foot, not flipped. Every three months is a common recommendation.
Double-sided sprung mattresses can usually be turned over as well. Check the manufacturer's instructions rather than assuming.
Protectors and airing
A breathable protector keeps spills and stains off the mattress, which matters because a stain can void warranty cover.
Pull the bedding back for a while in the morning so moisture can escape rather than sitting in the comfort layers.
The right base
Slats that are too far apart can let foam and spring units sag between them. Many warranties specify a maximum slat gap.
